VitaminD - Identification of genes and their regulatory motifs that are involved in antiproliferative signaling induced by 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 or in the tissue-selective activity of vitamin D analogs.

From 01-01-2006 to 31-12-2009

Description

By the use of elaborate microarray experiments, the present project aims to achieve a better insight in the mechanisms of the antiproliferative activity and of the tissue-selectivity of vitamin D3-analogs. Collaboration between LEGENDO, an expert biological research lab in the vitamin D-field, and ESAT, a well established bioinformatics research group, will allow optimal design of microarray experiments. Subsequent bioinformatical analysis aims to characterize clusters of genes which represent novel signal transduction pathways or cell-biological processes that mediate the antiproliferative effects of 1,25(OH)2D3. Promoters of these genes will be screened for conserved motifs and corresponding transcription factors, involved in 1,25(OH)2D3-signaling, will be identified. Finally, bioinformatics data will be validated in biological cell systems. This close interplay makes up the strength of our collaboration and will increase the quality and scientific value of the microarray studies.
