TRAFFIC - Sustainability effects of traffic management systems

From 01-12-2001 to 31-05-2005

Description

In this project we try to enhance sustainability of traffic on motorways by optimising the usage of the existing infrastructure. For this purpose we use mathematical models of the traffic situation. These models need calibration and validation based on real traffic measurements. Using these models we can assess and optimise the impact of different traffic measures. This is done by minimising a cost-function which relates directly to the traffic state on the motorway. The choice of the cost-function is very important and requires some research since it has to reflect the sustainability framework defined by the government.
