Mefisto - Mathematical Engineering for Information and Communication Systems and Technology

From 01-01-2000 to 31-12-2004

Description

The main objective is to generate integrated mathematical engineering approaches and to develop new and original mathematical tools as building blocks for the integrated approaches, that will contribute to an enhanced performance in many information technology applications. The group is constantly alert on introducing new mathematical tools and concepts. Using these concepts and tools advanced mathematical engineering approaches are designed that solve major bottlenecks in information technology systems. Typically this involves the design of advanced algorithms for the crucial engineering problems in information and telecommunication technology. The value of these algorithms is then evaluated on challenging applications. The feasibility of these algorithms can be tested in software or hardware. The project will deliver the following results: Design of new efficient and effective algorithms for mathematical engineering of information and communications (ICT) systems; Extensions of the previously developed methodologies towards a wider applicability; New theoretical results for ICT systems: stability results, numerical reliability results, capacity limits for communications systems, statistical properties, complexity analysis and/or security properties of these algorithms and methodologies,…; Integration of the concepts by combining and adapting the concepts and tools into consistent approaches.
