Vascular Brain Accident - Development of methods and tools for continuous EEG monitoring in Intensive Care Units in case of vascular brain accidents.

From 01-04-2013 to 31-03-2019

Description

The project objectives are:

1.     Develop new methods of detection and suppression of artifacts that allows the use of reliable EEG signal in cerebral functional status assessment for acute stroke.

2.     Improve procedures for detection of spikes and epileptiform discharges during acute stroke.

3.     Develop methods for classifying EEG in real time to determine the level of consciousness (waking vs. coma) in patients with acute stroke.

4.     Implement methods of EEG analysis to estimate the level of FSC for acute ischemic stroke and determine the feasibility of application of thrombolytic treatment.

5.     Design a prototype monitor brain function from determining quantitative EEG parameters, to assess directly the brain response to arterial revascularization procedures and other therapeutic actions.

6.     Investigate the feasibility of classification of clinical forms of stroke (ischemic vs hemorrhagic) from EEG signal parameters.

7.     To Increase the number and the quality of the professionals on the eastern region of Cuba dedicated to biomedical signal processing (PhD, MSc, and Bachelors).

8.     To create a research laboratory / classroom to support the Biomedical Engineering PhD and Master programs, in the Electrical Engineering Faculty and in the Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital *. To support Together With The professors of Catholic University of Leuven, the PhD and MSc programs in Biomedical Engineering in Universidad de Oriente, Cuba.

9.     Assimilate new research topics and new ideas, from Belgium counterpart.
