BioFrame - A Bioinformatics Framework for Top-Down Systems Biology

From 01-04-2007 to 31-03-2011

Description

Bioframe is a project that targets the conception of a bio-informatics platform for Systems Biology, with in its core tools for building models through data-integration. Systems biology is the study of an organism, viewed as an integrated and interacting network of genes, proteins and biochemical reactions. This goal can primarily be achieved through the interpretation of large amounts of high-throughput transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data. As this type of data grasps the intertwined mechanics of the cell at different levels, inferring knowledge from their combination allows leveraging the building of mechanistic models to attain the global goal of Systems Biology. Within this setting, Bioframe’s main focus is algorithmic, since this is the hart of the integrated modeling approach, and exactly where the main limitation exists today. Bioframe seeks to propose beyond state-of-the-art algorithms for knowledge inference, model building and model querying, as well as computational support for the design of data integration experiments.
