m-sense - Innovatief gebruik van sensoren in mobiele platformen (m-sense)

From 01-10-2016 to 30-09-2018

Description

The m-Sense project aims to inspire and help developers of mobile applications to fully exploit the potential of sensors that are available in mobile platforms. Current smartphones contain motion sensors, cameras, microphones, touch screens and location sensors that offer many opportunities such as identification of activities and events, rich user interaction, and analysis of the environment.

While middleware does exist for several development platforms, it contains rather simple algorithms that do not exploit fully the potential of today’s sensors in mobile devices. Also, for very specific uses no off-the-shelf solutions are available, while many developers do not have the required knowledge on signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms to solve their problems.

With the m-Sense project we would like to share knowledge, develop middleware containing high-level algorithms, build proof-of-concepts and evaluate solutions, in collaboration with companies, end-users, researchers and students. We envision three domains to explore:

• Collaboration between devices: by combining information from sensors of different devices new opportunities arise.

• Context awareness: through analysis of data from one sensor or different sensors knowledge on user and environment can be obtained.

• Rich user interaction: data from microphones, camera’s and motion sensors allow for user interaction that goes beyond the touch screen.
