Postdoc and PhD positions at KU Leuven ESAT-STADIUS

The research group KU Leuven ESAT-STADIUS currently filled in all PhD positions (4 years) and  postdoc positions (1 year, extendable) within the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant BIOTENSORS. If you are interested to join, please send your CV and motivation letter to Sabine Van Huffel.

Project Summary

The project’s overall objective is the systematic development of a framework of tensor-based signal separation methods for biomedical data analysis. More specifically, these methods should enable the extraction of fairly complicated sources of biomedical activity from sets of uni- and multimodal data.

Progress of a generic nature will be pursued along the following tracks:

The resulting algorithms will be integrated in a user-friendly open-source software platform.

The new techniques will be validated for and tailored to three biomedical applications for which extensive expertise is available in the team:

The work will be conducted in close collaboration with medical experts in the university hospitals.

Profile

The research positions relate to the six topics itemized above and will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Sabine Van Huffel in collaboration with Prof. Lieven De Lathauwer. We are seeking candidates with a Master’s degree in mathematical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mathematics or physics, and with a strong interest in signal processing, optimization, statistics, numerical computation, algebra and biomedicine. A solid mathematical background is essential. Experience with tensor techniques is not required. Candidates must be fluent in English.

Interested candidates can apply for these positions by sending their detailed CV, including a motivation letter and names of references, to Sabine.VanHuffel@esat.kuleuven.be. For further information on these positions, you may contact Sabine Van Huffel.

Research Environment

The research group ESAT-STADIUS at the university KU Leuven, Belgium, provides an excellent research environment for the project. The Stadius Center for Dynamical Systems, Signal Processing, and Data Analytics (STADIUS) is an academic research center, with a research focus on mathematical engineering, where mathematical tools from numerical linear and multilinear algebra, statistics and optimization are engineered for applications of dynamical systems and control, signal processing, data modeling and analytics.

STADIUS offers recognized expertise in diverse application fields such as industrial automation, audio and speech communication, digital communications, biomedical signal and data processing, and bioinformatics.

STADIUS has 11 academic faculty together with 81 PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, and is a division of the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT), Faculty of Engineering Science, KU Leuven.
