Public PhD Defense Christof Vermeersch (with prior workshop)

On 1 December 2023, our colleague Christof Vermeersch successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, titled

“The (block) Macaulay matrix: Solving systems of multivariate polynomial equations and multiparameter eigenvalue problems”.

On the occasion of this public Ph.D. defense, he also organized a workshop with experts in algebraic geometry and numerical linear algebra, delving into topics related to his research.

This workshop is part of the ongoing “Back to the Roots” seminar series by prof. dr. Bart De Moor and featured four presentations:

  • Prof. dr. Fatemeh Mohammadi (KU Leuven): “Polynomial systems arising in the formal verification of programs”,
  • Prof. dr. Bor Plestenjak (University of Ljubljana): “Numerical methods for rectangular multiparameter eigenvalue problems”,
  • Prof. dr. Karl Meerbergen (KU Leuven): “Linearizations for NEPv: Nonlinear eigenvalue problems with eigenvector nonlinearity”, and
  • Prof. dr. Bernard Mourrain (Centre Inria d’Université Côte d’Azur): “Linear algebra for non-linear problems”.
