Security Architecture for Personal Area Networks

Communication between mobile devices allows them to work together and augments their functionality. This idea resulted in the concept of a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). Supporting security and privacy are essential before these networks can become an everyday reality. Without the necessary countermeasures, wireless communications are easy to intercept and modify, and the activities of users can be traced. Moreover, the specific properties of WPANs present interesting challenges when designing security and privacy solutions in this environment. The goal of my research is to study a number of important security and privacy problems in WPANs and design solutions for these problems.

Main Research Interests:

bulletAuthentication protocols for Wireless networks (WPAN / RFID)
bulletPairing protocols
bulletLocation Privacy
bulletDistance bounding protocols
bulletSecure localization techniques

MobiSec:

As a post-doctoral researcher, I'm an active member of MobiSec, a subgroup of COSIC conducting research and projects on wireless and mobile security. More in detail, MobiSec is active in the following research domains:

bullet

anonymity in wireless networks

bullet

key management in ad-hoc networks

bullet

secure location based services

bullet

authentication protocols

bullet

mobile software agent migration

bullet

secure routing

bullet

application of light-weight cryptographic primitives in mobile applications and sensor networks.

One of the unique advantages of COSIC is the large diversity in research being conducted. A large subset of the research in computer security and cryptography is being covered. MobiSec exploits this diverse knowledge by tightly collaborating with the other subgroups in COSIC, especially with the hardware, privacy and SoPro subgroups.
