Install TOUCAN
The TOUCAN program can be downloaded from the
TOUCAN
website (see screenshot below). TOUCAN is a platform independent,
standalone Java application that is tightly linked with
Ensembl (
Birney et al.,
2004).
Note that in
order to run TOUCAN,
you must have J2SE
(Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition) installed on your machine (free download),
notably the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version including
Java Web Start. For Microsoft Windows users, it
might also be necessary to install the latest
Windows Service Pack first. For the first-time-use, you have
to start TOUCAN from its homepage,
but later you may start the program directly from its desktop icon or
from the "Start, Programs"- menu (in case you had chosen the
appropriate setup options). As usual, it might also be useful

informations.
