Install TOUCAN

The TOUCAN program can be downloaded from the TOUCAN website (see screenshot below). TOUCAN is a platform independent, standalone Java application that is tightly linked with Ensembl (Birney et al., 2004). Note that in order to run TOUCAN, you must have J2SE (Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition) installed on your machine (free download), notably the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version including Java Web Start. For Microsoft Windows users, it might also be necessary to install the latest Windows Service Pack first. For the first-time-use, you have to start TOUCAN from its homepage, but later you may start the program directly from its desktop icon or from the "Start, Programs"- menu (in case you had chosen the appropriate setup options). As usual, it might also be useful to have a look at the TOUCAN manual for additional informations.
