WHAT IS HOT?

Professional Position

Research Interests:

  • Design and analysis of algorithms useful in cryptology, i.e., making and breaking codes:

    • reductionist provable security of cryptographic algorithms/protocols,

    • algebraic and combinatorial cryptanalysis,

    • experimental analysis of practical ciphers (experimental cryptography),

    • applications of coding theory to cryptology.

  • Algorithms in general.

 Educational Flashpoints:

Notice Board:

  • I wrote an essay for the undergraduate mathematics/computer science students to entice them into research in the evergreen subject of cryptology. The essay  is here.[.ps][.pdf].

  • If you are interested to submit a Master's thesis under my supervision just drop by my office to have a chat or send me an email (students from foreign countries may also apply by sending me your CVs).  Our official thesis proposals: here and here. The list of other proposals from our group is here. However, in addition, I'm planning to undertake two other projects on cryptanalysis of (i) stream ciphers (most likely chosen from the recent submissions to the ongoing eCRYPT competition)  and (ii) hash functions (in view of the forthcoming NIST competition) . Get in touch with me if you are interested. I assure you a pleasant academic collaboration.

  • I am hunting for a tenured (or tenure-track) faculty position. I will be pleased to have an appointment in your university/institute/organization, if you offer me one, suitable for my experience and qualification. Here is my curriculum vitae.[.pdf]

Theses supervised by me:

  • Gorka Munduate, ERASMUS STUDENT in KULeuven (2004-2005), University of UPV/EHU, Basque Country, Spain, ``Cryptanalysis of the Stream Cipher RC4A,'' 2004-2005.

  • Gautham Sekar, Visitor to ESAT in KULeueven (July -Dec 2005), Master's Student, Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, India, ``Cryptanalysis of the Stream Cipher Py," 2005.

  • Amit Chandra, Visitor to ESAT, KULeuven (May-July 2008), Master's Student, IIT Kanpur, India, ``Survey of Multiple Block Hash Functions with attack on DBH of rate 1 and Construction of Secure Hash Functions based of Codes'', 2008.

Trivia:

  • One unknown well-wisher has created a page for me on Wikipedia. I'm extremely humbled by his/her kindness. The link.
