Multimedia Content Manipulation and Management

Sub-domain 1: Multimedia Content Manipulation and Management (MCM)

The scope of this sub-domain will be to develop audio-visual signal representation, manipulation and management tools able to support the creation of advanced digital multimedia services. The activities will concern software tools and hardware components designed to answer the needs of generic applications in a range of demonstration scenario including 3D tele-presence, mobile multimedia communications, programme production and distributed virtual environments.

A number of clusters have been identified to help organise concertation . They include 3D acquisition, 3D modelling and scene reconstruction, Stereo/ 3D display, Advanced Programme production, MPEG4 tools and algorithms (sequence classes A,B,C), MPEG4 systems, Speech versus Video analysis, Facial feature tracking, and Animation technology for user interfaces or Virtual hosts.

By closely working together with Sub-domain 2 and 3, the MCM sub-domain will ensure that proper care is taken to strongly tie content-related developments with service creation and distribution activities in the converging areas of telecommunications and TV broadcasting.
