Is your thesis or internship worth money?

Win a cheque of 100€ with your thesis and also have a shot at 800$ and a trip to the US!

The IEEE Student Branch Leuven Student Paper Contest is a contest for students, in wich the winner(s) receive a respectable amount of money. The winner of our contest receives 100€, for the second place this is 50€. The papers are automatically entered in the IEEE Region 8 contest, thereby having a shot at extra prize money (in 2005 the prizes where 800$, 500$ and 200$ for the first three). On top of that there is a free trip to a conference with an official publication. If you get in the best 3 papers of the Region 8 contest, there is a trip to the US to defent your paper over there.

Especially for those who are thinking to start working on a PhD, this is the ideal chance for publishing a paper. And this way maby your thesis can earn you some money. You can also participate with a report on your internship. Winning such a prize is also nice on your resumé.

In this paper contest you have to present unpublished work you researched during your engineering education. Your thesis for example is ideal for this. More information and the participation conditions (being an IEEE member,...) can be found here:

Send a paper (pdf) of maximum 6 pages to the before November 1, 2007. This paper has to be written in English according to the guidelines of the contest rules. Also mention your promoter and daily supervisor of your thesis.

If you are not sure wether your thesis is appropriate you can always ask your promoter/daily supervisor (with respect to the contents) or us ( for all IEEE matters and questions with respect to the contest).

The winning papers of the Student Paper Contest Leuven got to to the finals of the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest already three years in a row now. In 2004, Elke/Pieter defended their paper in Belgrado and in 2005Cedric went to Malaga. In 2006 even both papers from Leuven were selectred for the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest finals: Wilm and Jan defend their papers in Warsaw. So there is a high probability that someone from Leuven will get through to the finals in the US!
