Theme night: Networking
On Wednesday November 8, 2006 the IEEE Student Branch organizes its opening activity. The Egg Drop Contest of the afternoon will be closed at night with a theme night on ‘networking’. The motto of IEEE may very well be ‘Networking the world’, but what is networking and how can networking help you in your career?
We invited 3 speakers that will talk about the importance of networking, both from an academical point of view and from an industry perspective.
- Professor Joos Vandewalle will talk about networking from an academic point of view. Why is networking important, how can networking help in persuing an academic career and how does IEEE fit into the networking story?
- Valerie Tanghe of KVIV (www.kviv.be/vrouweningenieur) will talk about women in the world of engineering. What is the importance of networking here, why is it more difficult for women to reach higher functions and why do women dissapear from engineering circles after a few years?
- Damien Macq of AMIS (www.amis.com) will peresent the industry perspective on networking. Why is networking important in industry and how can you network in industry?
Following old traditions, the evening is closed with a reception where you can immediatly start networking yourself. And ofcourse taste a selection of the best Belgian beers such as the Buitenlust beer (www.buitenslustbier.be).
The theme night on networking starts at 20h00 and will take place in auditorium A of ESAT. Participation is free and everybody is welcome.
