Hard disc throwing

Using the motto ‘we have to keep the IEEE enthousiasts in shape’, the IEEE Student Branch organizes a competition on mouse swinging and hard disc throwing. The competition will be held on November 8, 2005 on the grassfield in front of the castle. Throwing material will be supplied by us. We will start at 13h30 and stay there until ±17h, depending on the weather.

There are three categories:

  1. throwing a hard disc as far as possible (by hand)
  2. swinging a computer mouse as far as possible (by hand)
  3. most origional device for hard disc launching (chosen by jury)

In each of these categories a hard disc of 160GB can be won, new and not used in the competition :-) This disc represents a store value of ±80 euro. Time to create your fitness program to come to the games in a perfect condition!

Game rules

  1. When launching the disc, competitors must keep in mind the safety of spectators: The gear used to launch the disc may not use fuels, explosives and similar things. Throwing devices considered dangerous for the spectators or the operators can be rejected from the competition by the organizers. The same rules apply to the hard disc throwing and the mouse swinging: Competitors that bring the safety of persons and private properties in danger will be rejected from the competition.
    2. Hard Disc
  2. Competitors can use any disc of their choice or a disc provided by the organizers. This disc will be a standard hard disc, but deviations hereoff can be granted by the organizers. The disc has no limitation regarding size and weight, unless the organizers judge that fairplay rules are violated or if the safety is at risc. The data capacity of the disc is not important. Similar rules apply to the mouse swinging competition: Size and weight are not important, wireless mouses are forbidden even if extended with a custom swinging mechanism, to avoid uncontrolled trajectories. Mouses will also be provided by the organization.
  3. The launching device cannot throw the hard disc to far (off the grass field) and the throwing direction of the projectiles cannot be random.
  4. In the case of equal throwing distances (both in the case of hard disc throwing and mouse swinging) for different competitors, the decision is made based on an additional throw: the person with the largest distance in this throw is declared the winner of the competition. If both persons are not present at that time, the winner is chosen by lottery.
  5. In judging the originality of the launching devices, only the launching device itself is taken into account. The efficiency of the device and the materials used are only of minor influence (it must work). Seducing the judges by beautifull young women to influence the outcome, altough encouraged, will not give you extra points.
  6. The organization is not responsible for possible accidents.
