On Tuesday November 8, 2005 the IEEE Student Branch has their opening activity where everybody is cordially invited. This activity is a theme-night about ‘How to make a carreer as an engineer’ and will be held in Auditorium A (ESAT) starting from 20h.
There are tree guest speakers:
- Jan Crols, co-fouder and CTO of AnSem (http://www.ansem.com), a successfull spin-off of the KULeuven. He is a former student of the electical engineering department and did his PhD in the MICAS research group. He will give a talk about his carreer and the important decisions he made along the way: Why did he do a PhD, afterwards stayed in Belgium and started his own company. In short, he will talk about ‘How he made it’.
- Jean-Luc Laurent of De Witte & Morel (http://www.dewittemorel.be), a recruitement office. He will talk about what the important qualities are for engineers (foreign experience, social skills, logic reasoning,...).
- Gert Theunissen, researcher of the department of applied economics. He was one of the people who worked on the salary survey (known from vacature.com) and will present the results for masters of engineering: What is the starting salery, what are the good sectors, will you get a company car, how fast does your salery increase,... download presentation
On this night, also the laureates of the student paper contest and the ‘hard disc throwing competition’ will be announced.
As usual, there is a reception afterwards with plenty possibility for interaction and conversation.
The presentations will be held in Dutch.
