IEEE Student Branch Leuven organizes a seminar where Melexis (www.melexis.com)
will present current research topics.
Melexis is an international company with Flemish roots. It is specialized in the development and production of advanced mixed signal components and sensors for the automotive industry. Because of stringent quality expectations, hostile environments and aggressive markets, Melexis has created the possibily to develop wold class innovative products. This makes Melexis the worldleader in the area of programmable sensors.
The following two topics will be discussed during the seminar:
- From Product to Production in Automotive MEMS by Jan Bienstman
This presentation discusses on the large gap between the demonstration of a MEMS prototype and the final and stable production of the device, which is usually by far underestimated. Especially for automotive applications, which require high volume, low cost and high reliability, it is of major importance to understand and assess the full scope of the 'product-production'-development, in order to be successful. During the presentation, various aspects of melexis' devellopment capabilities will be illustrated. - Automotive optical sensors by Roger Diels
This presentation will give an overview of some of the optical sensors that Melexis has developed for automotive applications. It will involve as well sensors in the visual & near infrared spectrum (dvd, linear and matrix arrays), as passive infra red sensors (for temperature sensing). For every sensor, shortly various aspects will be touched : design inputs (design, process), production aspects ( optical processes, packaging, production lines), reliability , economical aspects, and applications (electrical steering power assistance, camera's, automatic climate control, CO2 sensors).
Someone from Human Resources will be present to talk about job-opportunities at Melexis.
The seminar is on Wednesday November 24, 2004 in the ESAT building (auditorium A) starting at 19h30. After the presentations there is a possibility for further discussion at a small reception.
For IEEE-members the seminar is free, non-IEEE-members have to pay 1€. If you will attend the seminar we ask to register by sending an to the Student Branch. That way we have an idea of the number of attendants.
