Dr. Andrew Wagner

Dr. Andrew Wagner received his B.S.(2003) in General Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by a M.S.(2006) and Ph.D.(2011) in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  For Andrew’s Ph.D. he developed a complete automatic face recognition system including hardware for rapidly acquiring images of a subject’s face under different illuminations, a robust recognition algorithm based on L1-minimization, and optimized parallel implementations for both CPU and GPU architectures. His research interests center on developing novel sensing systems for tether aircraft used in aerial wind power, including the fusion of vision, inertial, and force sensors. Andrew has served for the last year as the system architect for the outdoor HIGHWIND carousel and plane.
